The basic rule is simple: you need to write things that potential readers like, in a pleasant way, and avoid things that they don't like, written in an unpleasant way. As Barbara always says: write what you would like to read. So even if there are no universal rules, there are some things you should definitely do, and other things you absolutely shouldn't do. What in English are called do's and don'ts. Let's see them! Things NOT to do Don't make references to personal facts that readers can only know if they are very fond of you. A post must have a life of its own and be understandable by someone who gets there and doesn't know who you are; Don't make references to facts and people using stupid pseudonyms like Ciccio Puccino: you have to accept the photo editor fact that if you want people to be involved, you have to involve them in your life. If you keep your distance, people will keep their distance. Don't do metablogging unless yours is a metablog, like this one. What is a metablog? it's a blog about blogs. This rule applies in entertainment. TV you don't talk about TV, on the radio you don't talk about radio, and in blogs you shouldn't talk about blogs! Talk about your topics: the blog and its structure and the work behind it must be invisible to users. Never ever talk about blogs, especially to say: no one reads me, or they steal my things, or certain people don't understand the work behind it no one is interested! Don't treat people badly and don't get involved in flames arguments: if someone is an obvious nuisance, ban them: it's your right to welcome only those you like into your home.
